June 7: Learning from the past

Welcome to St Mark’s Home Church, wherever you are in the world! As you scroll down you can follow the form of the service at your own pace with space for interaction, Bible readings, song and prayer as you feel led.

If you’re doing this with your family, you can head over here to access additional content for kid’s church today.

Reading: Daniel 5:1-30

Worship

Feel free to sing your own songs, or you can find more songs on our slowly growing worship playlist.

Message

Note: After the sermon was recorded, the Tasmanian government announced that groups of up to 40 attendees are now permitted at a religious service, and 50 people are permitted to attend a funeral.

  • What stood out to you from Kim’s talk?

  • What can we do to make sure we learn from the past?

  • For three weeks we’ve explored humility. How might we put this into practice?

Download this PDF for a full bible study on this passage.

Prayer

We invite you to take some time to pray with your household, in silence, or journal your own prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Community

Voyage – our youth group for Grades 7-12 – is having an Alpha weekend from the 12-14th June. Stuart will be in touch with our regular Voyagers with the details, but if you’re interested in joining us or finding out more, you can send him an email.

Please pray for them and also for the adults who are having a special Alpha day on Saturday the 13th June.

Here’s an update on reopening from Kim…

The key points about our reopening plan so far are:

  • Connect groups are now able to meet in homes with groups of up to ten guests, in line with Stage 2 government restrictions. (Hooray!)

  • The goal is for St Mark’s to be open for groups of up to 20 from June 15th. Every gathering will be required to comply with our COVID safe plan.

  • We are planning to begin doing services when we reach Stage 3, with a maximum of 50 people per service. Please pray for God’s guidance as we rethink what each service might look like. We will continue to produce online content during this time.

  • We recognise the significance of the op shop and coffee shop communities and will explore together how we can meet the COVID safe requirements for reopening and keeping our volunteers safe. Thanks to everyone for their patience on this – we know how excited people are for the shops to reopen!

  • Any volunteers who are in the high risk categories will need medical clearance to volunteer in any St Mark’s ministries. We will provide more information on this in the coming weeks.

There are many more ministries than these and we will work towards a staged process of re-opening.

Thanks!

We leave you with words from 1 Peter 3:8-9…

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

See you next week!
