May 31: Can we be proud and reasonable at the same time?

Welcome to St Mark’s Home Church, wherever you are in the world! As you scroll down you can follow the form of the service at your own pace with space for interaction, Bible readings, song and prayer as you feel led.

If you’re doing this with your family, you can head over here to access additional content for kid’s church today.

Pentecost Sunday

Today, while we continue our series on Daniel, we also remember the promise of the Holy Spirit. This same Spirit helped Daniel interpret dreams and is now poured out upon us today. After watching this video, take some time to welcome the Holy Spirit as you meet with God in your homes.

Reading: Daniel 4:1-18

To find out what happens, continue reading the rest of Chapter 4 by yourself or with the people in your household.

Message

  • What stood out to you from Kim’s message today?

  • Take a moment to reflect. Is there anything that you can apply from Daniel 4 and Kim’s teaching to your life this week?

Download this PDF for a full bible study on this passage.

Confession

Take a moment of silence to search your heart as we prepare to confess our sins to God.

Merciful God,
our maker and our judge,
we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
and in what we have failed to do:
we have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;
we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.
Father, forgive us.
Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Worship

Thanks Anita and Ginny for bringing this one to us this week!

Feel free to sing your own songs, or you can find more songs on our slowly growing worship playlist.

Prayer

We invite you to take some time to pray with your household, in silence, or journal your own prayers.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

We are so thankful for our Parish Council subcommittee of wardens and pragmatic thinkers who are working hard to develop a reopening process. Please pray for this wonderful group, and everyone on the staff team as we prepare for the next steps towards our new normal.

Once we’ve got the initial stages of our plan in place, Kim will circulate it via email and we’ll post updates on this website. For the next few weeks at least, we will continue gathering as we have been - online in zoom groups.

If you’d like to be on the distribution list to receive these updates and you don’t already get emails from us, please email homechurch@laurenipsum.co.

We’ve also put up a new sign this week, directing people to this website if they’re looking for information about reopening processes or would like to join in these services.

Thank You

We leave you with words from 1 Peter 5:b-7…

I beg you to take care of God’s flock, his people, that you are responsible for. Watch over it because you want to, not because you are forced to do it. That is how God wants it. Do it because you are happy to serve, not because you want money. Do not be like a ruler over people you are responsible for. Be good examples to them. Then when Christ, the Head Shepherd, comes, you will get a crown. This crown will be glorious, and it will never lose its beauty.

In the same way, younger men should be willing to be under older men. And all of you should be very humble with each other.

“God is against the proud,
but he gives grace to the humble.”

So be humble under God’s powerful hand. Then he will lift you up when the right time comes. Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you.

See you next week!
